The Latin American and Caribbean Center (LACC) is a US Department of Education-designated National Resource Center for Foreign Language and Area Studies. The center fosters high quality research, education, and services on Latin America and the Caribbean. LACC’s programs build on the unique assets of FIU’s inter-American setting and the expertise of close to 200 faculty associates who work on Latin America and the Caribbean. LACC houses eight affiliated centers and institutes: the Cuban Research Institute, Summit of the Americas Center, Intercultural Dance and Music Institute, Institute for International Professional Services, Colombian Studies Institute, Institute for Sustainability Science in Latin America and the Caribbean, Florida Mexico Institute, and Florida Caribbean Institute. LACC offers a Master of Arts Program in Latin American and Caribbean Studies, graduate and undergraduate certificate programs, and a number of summer programs and foreign study opportunities. Outreach to educators, the media, government, and business is a cornerstone of LACC’s mandate. LACC regularly holds conferences, lecture series, and other events on relevant Latin American and Caribbean topics.
