The Institute for Asian Studies (IAS) is a broad-based interdisciplinary program promoting curriculum development and faculty research as well as student exchanges. IAS administers several undergraduate and graduate programs in Asian Studies. It also oversees study abroad programs with Asian institutions, facilitates the acquisition of library materials in source languages, and sponsors activities with local businesses, colleges, schools, and other institutions to promote an awareness of Asian and Asian-American culture. Asian Studies at FIU is particularly strong in the region of East Asia, especially China and Japan, and also covers South Asia, especially India, and Central Asia.
